Deb Martin, Vice-Chair

Deborah Martin is a graduate of Coach University and a Coach University Professional Mentor Coach. She is a member of the International Coach Federation (ICF) and is an ICF Professional Certified Coach. Deb is also a founding member of Coachville, the worlds largest coach training organization, and a founding member of The International Association of Coaches. Deb holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Education and a Masters Degree in Career and Technical Education. She is currently a student in Coachville's Schools of Coaching

In March of 1996, Deb began her coaching practice, Portage. She has attracted an international clientele of leaders, high achievers, entrepreneurs, coaches and visionaries. Deb is extraordinarily intuitive and passionate about all things wild. She spends as much time as possible getting to know herself better and testing her limits in the wilderness. She gives Mother Nature credit for being her first coach. Her style is to guide clients toward their own truth using compassion and fun. In addition to her regular coaching sessions, Deb combines her intuitive abilities and her passion for nature to offer what she calls Wilderness Adventure Coaching. Deb maintains a practice of approximately 24 clients.

One of Deb's favorite back-county activities is portaging her canoe from one lake to another. She loves the discovery process. “The portage itself is as much fun as getting to the next lake.” Thus, Deb believes any transition must be driven by a value that reflects the core of who you are. “When you get to the who, the what and how happen naturally. Once you've defined the goal or outcome, hold it very, very lightly and focus on the process instead. Gratitude for the process may take you down a path you can't yet envision and leave you much more open to the insights that will come your way.” Deb says you can still have goals and make plans, but be curious and make space for surprises. “Intuition is blocked when we practice either/or thinking. These surprises/insights will perhaps move you away from the original goal but can lead you to something much, much better.”

Deb believes that we all can dramatically simplify our lives. She says that many clients come to her wanting to do something, in order to have something, in order to be somebody. Deb says, “Be somebody first and the doing and having are natural outcomes. The more you discover the truth about who you are, the more you'll get what you want.”   Deb can be reached at deb@portagecoach.com.

Julia M. Rhodes, Member

Julia Rhodes is President and founder of KleenSlate Concepts, LLC, an International product development company founded in 2001. Julia took her prototype to a manufacturer and soon started selling her patented invention: The KleenSlate Attachable Eraser for dry erase markers.  Through this process, she has grown to understand the value of building relationships, networking, and giving back to your community.  As a woman, she knows how important it is to give and receive support from other women.  Julia is a member of the Women’s Enterprise Business National Council (WEBNC) and serves on the Certification Committee through WBENC’s affiliate, Astra.  She also is a member of National Association for Women Business Owners (NAWBO) and National Supply and School Equipment (NSSEA). Her passion is supporting other women in understanding the steps required for starting their own business, as well as establishing themselves in the world market. She has a can-do attitude which has been reinforced by her growing success, and she is generous in her desire to share this information with others just starting out in business.

Julia went from being a teacher of 14 years into running an international company. With the help of her Coach, Michelle Payne, she learned how to deal with the challenges of becoming a businesswoman.  Julia’s philosophy when dealing with potential customers: Business is about relationships and you have to establish those before anything else. Secondly, “No” doesn’t mean no – it just means “not right now”.  It is with this determination that she has secured contracts with both Office Depot and Staples, not to mention numerous catalogs and retail outlets. Julia can be contacted at her office, (209) 588-0375, or via email at jrhodes@goldrush.com
